I am a passionate and patient instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental Music Education, with a focus on Euphonium. I have worked as a long term sub in middle school band and have taught privately since that time. I currently work outside the education field, but still enjoy sharing music with those who want to learn. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding then seeing a student from many years ago either talk about when they had lessons with me or see them playing somewhere either live or online. I have had many students continue to play when they entered college just for fun and a way of meeting people with similar interests. I enjoy showing a student how to play both the clarinet and saxophone. I would rather teach a student on how to play something rather than me performing it. Read More

To me, it is most important that a student feels successful in what they have accomplished each lesson. Every student progresses at their own rate and it's important to give students attainable short-term goals in the service of long-term achievements. It is also important to know what drives each student and understand why they want to take private lessons. This will give the student a degree of inspiration which us as teachers can use to help them stay focused and interested in continuing with their studies. Read More

I started teaching private lessons in 1990 and continued through my college years and as I raised my two sons. I was thrilled to move to Maple Heights where I can have a room dedicated as a music studio. I started the band program at my k-8 school in 2000 and currently teach band to high school students. I have continued teaching privately because I enjoy the one on one experience with the student. Read More

As a clarinet instructor, I always strive for bringing a wide variety of different artistic, technical and clarinet related aspects into my teachings. I find it crucial to be able to identify a certain students strengths or weaknesses. When us, teachers, do that, we are not only helping an individual student, we also expand our capacity as artists; we learn new ways to fix certain problems in ones playing. I believe that by staying open-minded with the ways we approach our teaching styles, we constantly learn how to become better, more flexible and always innovative when passing our knowledge to the students. I teach a combination of Rote and verbal, conveying my ideas while playing as an example. I realized my passion for music when I was teaching forty clarinetists during a band camp. They caught on to my personality and knew I wanted the best for them. This ultimately drove them to be better musicians. In a perfect world, I would rather teach the rest of my life without being paid and be able to support myself but unfortunately that is not how the world works. Read More

I love teaching because I believe most, if not all, people love music and can learn to love making music. I want it to be fun for them, to keep them interested. I believe that a set of expectations on the student is required to keep them motivated, but I am never upset or disappointed if they don't practice enough. I think keeping them involved in music is the most important part, and I know that many students will not pursue a full time career in music, but music is valuable to them in so many ways. Read More
