I gauge the speed at which we move based on the student in question, and prepare a practice routine for each student based on how much time they have to practice each day. Older students interested in auditioning for All-Region bands, will work on etudes to prepare for those honor band auditions. No matter what age, any starting clarinetist needs to understand the fundamentals of the clarinet. Once these fundamentals are acquired, we move on to the basics of reading music and playing the clarinet such as learning the circle of fourths and practicing pieces of music that is from a certain major scale. I love to watch my students grow as they take to improve on technique, tone and etc. I give students homework to practice and encourage regular practicing.
