Regarding the actual, music-making process: one of my biggest skills as a musician is creating coherent and beautiful phrases, and one of my biggest skills as a teacher is helping students find organic phrasing. Everyone has their own voice and style, and with the right prompting they can use that voice to express their music to the fullest extent. Methods I regularly refer to include the Rubank Series, Baermann Scales Method, Klose, Langenus, The Chromatic Machine by Kalman Opperman, and countless other exercises I have picked up from past teachers including Charles Neidich Dr. Read More

I am a recent college graduate, so it hasn't been so long since I was taking lessons myself! That said, I've taught music in a wide variety of settings, from private lessons, to music summer camps, to instrumental demonstrations, to running college ensembles, and more. Because I'm still young, I remember what it was like not to understand certain topics within music, so I'm particularly good at figuring out where my students are getting stuck and helping them to look at it from a new point of view. Philosophy Every student, musician and person is different. I think it's my job to find out what inspires and motivates each student, and guide them towards their goals. I think it's important that it has to be fun to be interesting, and the other way around, only then can the student reach their full potential as a musician. At the core my goal is for the student to improve, and enjoy how wonderful it is to play music. Read More

My teaching style is based on a balance between fun and progression. I have a loose, fun-loving personality that can also be balanced with the seriousness to get things done. I ensure that the student knows that I care, both about their goals, and them as an individual. I use a lot of humor and wit in my lessons to help make sure my students are relaxed. I also provide critical feedback that both allows students to improve while at the same time highlight a student's strengths. Read More

I have always enjoyed teaching others and watching the lightbulb snap on with inspiration. I started teaching my fellow high school students and middle school students my junior and senior years of high school while guided by a Music Buddies program through my youth orchestra. I have tried to continue teaching privately ever since where ever I am. I have also taught some wonderful adult beginners, but I have mostly taught middle and high school students and understand the challenges of balancing school, possible work, with fitting in the time to work on and benefit from all that music programs have to offer at those ages. I have enjoyed teaching since High School, when I traveled to teach students by bus. Later I traveled by car to homes to teach, but have only taught in my studio for over 20 years. I find that the lessons are better where I have all of my wealth of music. I try to relate to each student personally, so they feel comfortable, and enjoy their lessons. Some students will respond to certain methods, while others need to be taught differently. Read More
