I use the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements method for my beginning students. As my students progress, I introduce solo repertoire suitable for a recital/performance situation. I start with music of the students' choice as soon as I see fit which encourages practice. A good part of my lesson time is spent is playing music with the students. Read More

Music is very much a personal subject unique to each person, and I create different lesson plans for every student I have. I have acquired a large amount of sheet music, textbooks, and other sources that I am happy to share with my students. Along with learning the technique of your instrument, I also place emphasis on teaching ear training, aural skills, basic music theory, and writing their own music. Read More

I have taught private flute studnets since my Graduate School days, in 1994. My studets have reached NYSSMA level 6 and have played at college and scholarship auditions, NYSSMA solo festivals, in-house festivals as well as many other occasions. I know kids are busy and I am creative with using technology and simple "practice smarter not harder" strategies to help a student achieve his or her goals while still maintaining a busy schedule. Yes for teaching piano I use Nancy and Randall Faber's books. I have used all of them. For guitar and mandolin I generally do not use a "book". As the lessons progress I might introduce a book if that is what is called for. All orchestral instruments call for the structure of a book and I augment that with my own explanations. This is true for all ages of learners. Read More

Teaching, for me, began when I was in high school; I taught summer drumset lessons at McQuaid Jesuit and taught Karate at Martial Arts America. This desire to teach was incorporated with my love of music...leading me to pursue a degree in Music Education. I began performing and competing in fourth grade, which continued into my college years. In my third year of undergraduate work, these elements of music led me as well as three of my percussion buddies to performances and clinics (that we taught) at the New York State School Music Association and the New York State Band Director's Association conventions. I have taught clarinet lessons for ten years, and I have ample experience with teaching adult, beginning, intermediate, advanced, and college-level students. In addition, I have taught clarinet lessons and a methods course to music major and non-music major students at Eastman School of Music, and I taught private lessons in the Austin Independent School District. I have also taught lessons and masterclasses at summer band camps. I taught skype lessons a couple of years ago, and I feel comfortable with this style of teaching. Read More

Hello, I am currently finishing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Saxophone performance at the University of North Texas and am a teaching fellow there instructing undergraduate saxophone majors. I was originally accepted as a multiple woodwind major there as I have played flute and clarinet on cruise ships and jazz gigs as well as flute and clarinet classical works. In addition to UNT I have students at Richland College, Melissa ISD and Richardson ISD that I continue to teach. Read More
