I have been a working music teacher and professional musician since 2003. My work has taken me all over the world, from exotic, global itineraries on board 5-star cruise ships, to the some of the top music venues in New York City, as well as the homes and classrooms of many satisfied students. I graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, with a B.M. in Jazz Performance (saxophone). I also hold a Certificate of Eligibility in K-12 Music from the New Jersey Department of Education, as well as a Substitute Teaching Certificate (specializing in music) for Sussex County school districts in New Jersey. My teaching experience goes back to college when I first started offering lessons. During my time with the Navy, I would lead masterclasses for students in Singapore and Australia. During my time with the Army National Guard, I have regularly worked with high school students to help them prepare for All-State auditions. I love teaching and working to bring the best out of my students. Being a student is difficult. Read More

My teaching style is warm, open, and adaptable, getting to know my students as an individuals to help them learn in the ways best for them. I believe in considering a students goals in developing my approach, so if someone wants to learn jazz, or loves a particular pop song, that is where well start. My hope is to keep students inspired and interested, and the best way is to align with their existing interests, and show how new concepts can fit in with those interests. Read More

My teaching style begins with my assessment of each student's abilities, physical, mental, and emotional. By this method I am able to design a realistic program for each student. Patience and encouragement go hand in hand, acknowledging their accomplishments all along the way. Once some fundamentals are established, I add pieces that the student has an interest in learning. In preparing for recitals I often accompany students which adds not only enjoyment for them but encouragement for them to overcome hesitancy to perform publicly. Read More

Our former students have gone onto win the Governors Award for Musical Theatre Performance, Tisch School for Performing Arts, and Westminster Choir College. While at Harrison High School & Washington Middle school, I implemented an after-school academy for the performing arts, which includes: a dance program, jazz vocals, musical theatre lab, and a Finale writing program which our students use state of the art equipment to write and record their own material. When teaching students who are young, I would first start off with the fundamentals. For example, I would explain music terms to them and develop the new language from there. Once the student has a basic understanding of music, I would then talk about the Circle of Fifths and encourage them to participate in events like concerts or festivals in school. When becoming a young adult, I would then discuss competitions and help them prepare for college auditions. Read More
