I always try to guide my instruction in a fun and engaging direction to keep the student interested and motivated to get better. I am able to do this by being energetic and enthusiastic about my teaching and I feel its important to make the material matter to the student. When a student has confidence in their abilities they are able to achieve much success on their specific instrument. I have over 15 years experience teaching privately as well as teaching band and orchestra in public schools. At one time I taught thirty-eight, half hour band and orchestra sessions every week. This included private Jazz ensembles and orchestra—all at the Elementary level. I taught 4th and 5th grade band and orchestra for the San Ramon Valley School District for 5 years as well as after-school ensembles for 9-11 year olds. Read More

Cellist Minjung Kang was born and raised in South Korea. At age of 7, she began her music studies in piano and won multiple awards in piano competitions by the age of 9 such as Piano competitions hosted by famous piano manufacturing companies in Korea such as Samick and Young Chang. At age of 11, she had her first piano recital at Hoam Performing Art Center as the award of the competition. She picked up her first cello at age of 11, and studied under Kuk Rok Park, one of the most famous cellists in Korea. Read More

For beginning students I start with the Suzuki cello books, and teach books 1 to 5. I reinforce the Suzuki with pop/ non-classical songs, depending on the student's interest. After Suzuki 5, which is well into the intermediate level, I introduce individual works (small concerto's, sonatas, etc.) and cater them towards the student's ability and interest. For younger or beginner students, I reinforce the Suzuki books with sight-reading, and as they progress, I add in etude studies.  Read More
