With students who have already started, I will often still refer to the Suzuki materials, but I will pull more from other books and repertoire. I did my undergrad program at UMass Lowell and have achieved my Bachelors degree in Music Studies. I currently still attend the University, where I am striving to get my Masters degree in Music Teaching. With over 15 years of experience playing and performing cello, I have won many competitions in Atlanta, GA and performed as a soloist with Atlanta-based orchestras including the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Georgia Philharmonic, and the Dekalb Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, I have performed with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra and the NEC Symphony Orchestra as the principal cellist, and I have also been featured in masterclasses with renowned cellists such as Steven Isserlis, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, and Paul Katz. If you are interested in a different method I will typically alter my teaching to accommodate. Early lessons typically work on establishing a strong technical foundation so the student will be able to pursue music that speaks to them. I began teaching Piano and Violin at the age of 15 to people between the ages of 4 to 65. This eventually moved on to classroom settings for strings and Chorus. One thing Ive learned from all this time is that people want to be able to actually PLAY and have FUN. I work on fundamentals like the proper posture, developing good ears for correct tones, and how to correctly hold the bow. A perfect understanding of basics goes a long way.
