I received a BA in music with a minor in philosophy in 2002. After College wound up working different dead end jobs, until I became a stone fabricator of granite countertops. In 2006 I went back to Berklee college of music for one year and wound up transferring to Longy School of Music in 2007. This is where I got to study with Charlie Banacos, George Garzone, John Lockwood, Bob Gullotti, and was introduced to concepts such as George Russel's Lydian chromatic concept. Read More

I am an active performer an educator based in NYC. I have a deep relationship with the Electric and Acoustic Bass, and the Guitar. My relationships with these instruments have encouraged my to study and perform many genres of music. During my studies at Berklee, I had the opportunity to delve into many different aspects of music. My primary focuses were in performance and music education, though I also pursued writing/arranging, music business, and music history. Read More

After the first lesson, I will break up lessons into warmups (stretches and fretboard exercises), the study of repertoire (learning melodies and chords), and the relevant technique (scales, picking approaches, etc) for which the music calls. Time spent discussing theory will likely emerge from the teaching of the song, but can be approached with a variable level of depth - students less interested in theory will still come away from a lesson with some awareness of what's making the music work; students more interested in theory are welcomed to dig deeper - with the awareness that theory may function as a useful tool to understand a piece of music, or even generate new material, but that the end-goal, ultimately, is to produce a piece of music; not a theorem. I first began teaching privately at age 15 when a wealth of younger and older students at my high school took interest in learning how to play the guitar, and write songs. I believe the only way to truly improve is to practice, and to enjoy the process. Learning music is like learning a language, so it is a process of repetition and study. That, however, does not mean it cant be fun! Read More

The ways Ive tried to make learning fun are working on students favorite songs, getting students to play with me in duets as soon as possible, and encouraging improvisation. By giving students the tools of improvisation and knowledge of chord progressions, I also encourage students to develop original songs. Through playing bass guitar for a number of years in bands, and learning and instructing piano, I am also able to offer instruction on these instruments. Read More

I truly enjoy seeing each of my students develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation for music. I believe each student must be taught in a way that allows them to grow and develop at their own pace, and without feeling overwhelmed. Through positive praise and personal accomplishments a student's desire to progress fuels their motivation. By working closely with each student, I find their inspirations and tailor my instruction to their needs. Read More
