My teaching method will be largely based on what you want to accomplish as a musician. My students taking the classical route will become familiar with the Suzuki Method books. I like to supplement this with etudes, folk tunes, and something of personal interest to you (pop music, world music, video game, etc.) If you are more interested in a fiddle/bluegrass approach, I will start you on the O'Connor Method books for violin/viola. My cello instruction is separated by levels and books. Level 0-1 is in Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books 1 and 2. Level 1-2 is Rick Mooney's Position Pieces Book 1, as well as sheet music and books outside of that method book. Level 2-3 is Rick Mooney's Position Pieces Book 2 and sheet music, and 3+ will be Rick Mooney's Thumb Position books. At the age of 17, I flew to Hollywood, CA to attend Musicians Institute where I studied Bass Guitar Performance. Learning from and playing with some of the best musicians in the business was amazing. I left school to hit the road with my first professional band. I spent the next 20+ years writing, recording and touring all over the country. I was lucky enough to be in a few bands that landed indie recording contracts, which allowed me to tour nationally doing original music, with songs I had written being played on radio and on TV shows across the country. In 2009, I graduated as valedictorian from Emmanuel College with a degree in Cello Performance and a minor in piano. My studies also focused on music theory, chamber music, and orchestra, as well as string and piano pedagogy.
