I do not use any particular "methods" of teaching, although I did begin out on Suzuki. And while I do believe this is an important methodogy, Suzuki does have its flaws as do most of its kind. As I mentioned earlier, theory, harmony, and music history (as rudimentary as they may be at the beginning) are crucial for all students regardless of their level. I have varied experience relating teaching, whether it comes from teaching directly or other musical experiences. My earliest teaching experiences were mentorship programs in my local youth symphonies as a high schooler, and since then I've taught in afterschool programs, received my Suzuki Book 1 certification, and taught ear training in a classroom setting. Through my experience in teaching and chamber music, I really try to curtail expectations and goals to a student's individual wants from music making, so that students can feel proportionally challenged and confident to the amount of time they'd like to put in. I like to use guitar books if at all possible for beginners because its a great place to start. I believe patience and versatility are very important, as each student learns a different way. I set goals for each lesson and try to guide the student during the lesson into achieving them. Sometimes the goals are achieved during the lesson, and sometimes while practicing on hteir own time.
