Hi! I am an experienced and serious cellist and teacher. I have a great passion for music and for teaching music as well. I am interested in helping cellists of all levels to achieve their artistic and musical aspirations and goals. I began teaching as an undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina. I worked in a teacher-training program called the String Project, where I had the opportunity to observe and assist string teachers in a group setting. From there I gained private students in the Columbia, SC area and eventually hired as a Teaching Assistant where I taught a cello practicum for music education students and private cello at the university. I use String Builder, Essential Elements, etudes, technical studies for each instrument and Suzuki Methods for strings and essential elements for clarinet. I emphasize good posture, holding the instrument and bow properly and correct finger placement. Also learning to play scales and music to prepare for auditions and a recital. I also teach students music theory and sight reading and assist with orchestral music. Beginner work how to take a Bow and how to use Bow in Cello. Left hand learning first with tape then take off tape to play listening intonation. Intermediate students work make good sound use bow slow and faster, contact bow differently and vibrato. To get better Vibrato work very slow vibrato to faster. For beginning students, I typically start with the Suzuki method books, because I think they lend themselves well to both kids and parents who are practicing with them. These books also come with accompaniment CDs which I find very important to learning. For adults, I like to have a conversation about what the student's goals are and what they are interested in and guide my instruction accordingly. For all, I want lessons to be engaging and fun, but to make real progress both in solo playing and collaboration. Read More
