My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 18 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I am a strings teacher, teaching privately for 10 years and in public schools for 7. I graduated from Elizabethtown College with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education, with a concentration in violin. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Orchestral Conducting at Messiah College. Strings students can expect to improve week to week in their technique. I teach students strong foundational techniques in order to develop their abilities. I use a mixture of both technical exercises and repertoire to help any student to play with freedom, confidence, and expression. Read More

For early students, I typically start with the Suzuki books, as I like the organized technical and musical progression of each piece. As the students develop I begin to add supplimentary materials such as etude and scale books. Students can progress from open strings to Bach with ease. As a young child, I was a music nerd, practicing all the time, listening all the time... until practicing started to feel like work and music got competitive. I stopped playing for several years and even when I returned to cello, studying music in college made it feel like I was doing it for all the wrong reasons. Music has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember! I started playing the electric organ when I was about 7 years old. I couldn't read music yet, but I would listen to my dad play and just copy him. When I was in 3rd grade I started playing cello... in 5th grade the trombone.... in 8th grade the drums.... in high school the bass guitar.... and later it was the guitar, violin, viola and ukulele.
