I am a native, grew up in South Korea. I have teaching experience for more than 15 years. I studied master of degree in music and taught the Cello in New York. After I got married, I moved to South Jersey so I am looking for students around here. As a young child, I was a music nerd, practicing all the time, listening all the time... until practicing started to feel like work and music got competitive. I stopped playing for several years and even when I returned to cello, studying music in college made it feel like I was doing it for all the wrong reasons. More than anything else, I try to grow a love for the cello and music, because without a passion, lessons can be a drag (trust me, I know!). I try to incorporate some of the student's other interests into the lessons, ie. pop music, art, even science! I also place a lot of value on progressing at the student's own pace and understanding when a student doesn't really like a particular piece, not to spend too much time on it. Read More

For beginners, I generally start with Suzuki, Hal Leonard's Essentiel Elements or Grant's Fundamentals of Violoncello Technique. For intermediate levels, I work on solo reperory of my student's preference/my suggestion. Read More

For early students, I typically start with the Suzuki books, as I like the organized technical and musical progression of each piece. As the students develop I begin to add supplimentary materials such as etude and scale books. Students can progress from open strings to Bach with ease. Music has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember! I started playing the electric organ when I was about 7 years old. I couldn't read music yet, but I would listen to my dad play and just copy him.
