My teaching experience dates back to high school when I started teaching cello to students in my school district's orchestra program. Since then, I have continued to teach freelance through personal connections, Musika, and various non-profit organizations. Furthermore, I am currently in my internship to become a board certified music therapist, and have experience teaching music to individuals with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and dementia/Alzheimer's. From my experience, students vary greatly in musical background, personality, and needs, so I view each new student as a blank slate. My philosophy has always been to patiently build a solid foundation and not rush into advanced pieces at the risk of accumulating bad habits. At the same time, I recognize how important it is to keep learning fun, so I negotiate the balance accordingly. I have been lucky to study with renowned teachers at top music schools while traveling to music festivals around the world to play with interesting musicians in a great variety of cultures and styles. For me, the the experience of music has no boundries between concert halls, teaching studios, street corners, galleries, or artistic genres. My qualifications include my BA Degree in Cello Performance. I tutored other students in music theory, cello skills and technique as an undergraduate at Hampton University. I studied the violoncello at Levine Music school. I attended St. John DeMatha Catholic High School and Hampton University where I was principal in the Sinfonia Orchestra, Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras.
