Instruments: Piano Violin Cello Viola
I have extensive experience as a private teacher (25+ years). I teach cello, violin/viola, and piano and have taught students ages 5-65. I also have prepared students for specialized middle school and high school auditions, pre-college programs, and other auditions. In addition to private teaching, currently, I teach group string classes in Harmony Program NYC. Since I play the piano I'm often the accompanist for my students' recitals. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. My teaching experience began at age 16, when a family friend asked if I would teach her daughter violin. I instantly found a love for the challenge of teaching, and the joy when a student experiences success. I have taught privately in a myriad of settings: music stores, music studios, and in students' homes. In high school, I was accepted into a music program that prepared me for entering college as a Music Education major. Read More

I use a variety of method books--Bastien, Hal Leonard, John Thompson, and Faber are all favorites of mine for piano. For strings, I stand by the Suzuki method and String Builder series. All lessons are supplemented with sheet music that I print out myself for free on imslp.org, so you get that free of charge! Young children (Ages 0-7), if they are mature enough to sit through a short lesson, learn mostly through play. Read More

I enjoy watching my students grow and watching them develop their own interests and personal tastes. I open the door for my students with a strong technical instruction, and encourage them to walk through that "door" and develop their musical expression and curiosity. Through hard work, patience, and curiosity, we can form a connection that will help us both grow in innumerable ways. Moving beyond the teaching setting, I believe it is important to foster a connection to many other art forms. Read More

I am a former Suzuki student--I began at age 3.5 with my mom as my teacher--so I believe that Suzuki is an incredible method for teaching young string players. The aural memory I attained by learning this way still continues to benefit me in my career each and every day! I obtained my Suzuki Teacher Certification from the School for Strings, NY, with Pamela Devenport, and am happy to teach the Suzuki method only or in combination with traditional methods. Read More

I taught cello at the Union City Music Project, The Washington Heights Conservatory, the MAP pre-college program at Juilliard, and also taught privately. Since then Ive dedicated myself more to playing in orchestra, Ive played with the Cincinnati Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, New Jersey Symphony and Im currently playing with the Boston Symphony, but have maintained a private studio since. As part of my graduate and undergraduate studies I regularly taught both locally and abroad to students of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. I have also maintained a steady private studio, teaching individual lessons to students for over five years. My teaching style has a strong emphasis on developing and maintaining engagement and excitement with the subject. I believe that a positive attitude is essential to a student’s growth and it is my responsibility as a teacher to develop that attitude. Read More
