I've found that keeping an open mind about methods is really helpful when dealing with beginning students, young and old. I've tought from various method series including Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Emily Wright's A Modern Cellist's Manual, Muller Rusch, and more. While I'm not a certifited Suzuki instructor, I do teach from the Suzuki method when students or parents request it. What's important is matching the right method to the right student which I tend to determine at our initial lesson. Read More

When receiving a student I first like to get to know the student by friending them. Asking question as to what their likes are and just getting to know them. For the beginner we start of with a Method book that fits their age and personaity and go from there. As a hired session cellist, I have recorded and performed with a variety of rock, metal, pop, and neofolk acts including Abigail Williams, Bryan Lanning, A Hill to Die Upon, and Osi and the Jupiter. I have performed as a live cellist for Nirvanish, a Nirvana cover band from Orange County, and with Paisely Shades, a psychedelic funk band from Long Beach.
