Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! I strive to find an individual approach to each student and it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. While daily practice is necessary for quicker progress, not every student has the time for it. So I teach my students how to use the time allocated for personal practice more effectively and how to develop good practice habits. Read More

I am a cellist, composer, and teacher currently residing in Upper Manhattan. I love performing, teaching, and creating exciting new music with all of my friends and students. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Music at the Manhattan School of Music, with an emphasis in Contemporary Performance. I am also a member of the Contemporary Music Ensemble "Tactus", which has been critically acclaimed by the New Yorker as The deepest, grandest noise of the musical season so far, and by the New York Times, "Ambitious . . . finely polished . . . spirited". My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons 25 years ago. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I truly appreciate all efforts to produce sound. I am never bored or impatient! My approach to my students is informal, unpressured and encouraging. I play with my students all the time, creating occasions for performance and giving my students contexts for taking pride in their musical achievements. I feel that playing should not be an isolating experience but something to be shared. I organize groups every year: beginner and advanced kids; beginner, intermediate and advanced adults. Read More

My teaching experience has been with both children and adults learning to play for the first time. I love getting to know a students interests, both musical and scholastic, and helping them overcome any obstacles that they encounter while learning to play the cello. While learning technique and rudiments is essential for any instrument, playing music that the student selects as a performance goal is at the heart of my teaching. Read More

For beginner students I usually start with teaching the fundamentals of how to hold the cello and bow and how to make a sound, using Pizzicato and bow movement. I then introduce the Suzuki volume 1-4 books and make sure that the student learns a piece that will help him or her improve the most but at the same time will ensure an enjoyable and successful learning experience. For intermediate and advanced students I usually get familiarized with the student's skill level during the first lesson and build an individual curriculum for each student that will involve pieces the student loves and wants to play, pieces that will challenge the student, and pieces that will help the student reach his or her goals as a cellist and musician Read More
