My name is Matt and I a professional musician, composer and music educator. I lived, studied and performed in Philadelphia for six years while earning my Bachelors Degree in Instrumental Performance and Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of the Arts. Teaching for me works best on an individual level. Students work on different levels and languages concerning music, and you have to be able to adapt to them. Some people might understand everything from the get go, some students need graphic support, some student need to learn song to understand what they are doing. I teach out of instructional books, notably books by Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, and Alfred. Sometimes, I use sheet music print outs, and draft up my own exercises.  I go back in forth in a non-conventional manner, adapting accordingly to the student's needs.  I like to incorporate exercises and warm ups to improve and enchance technique.  I also teach songs that the student would like to learn.  I'm very patient and rarely rigid in my approach, although I do stick to a general routine that allows a focused approach to learning. During the 1980s, Stuart played with the infamous Punk legend, Dean Johnson, in Dean and the Weenies. In 1990, he joined the band known as The Rakes Progress which recorded for Almo/Geffen Records. The Rakes Progress was featured on Late Night with Conan OBrian, MTVs 120 Minutes, and Beavis and Butthead and toured through the United States, Canada and Europe.
