I'm a performer/composer who comes from a line of professional arts educators. Both my parents and one of my grandmothers are lifelong teachers in musical theater and modern dance respectively. I've learned a huge amount from them not only about my art form but about the skills required to be a good teacher, regardless of topic. Teaching is truly its own set of skills separate from the topic that someone is teaching, and treating this job as such is the difference between someone simply demonstrating skills and actually being a thoughtful teacher. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2005 I graduated from The Players School of Music. Performing with my favorite musicians and releasing my own music has been some of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play with my biggest influences and call them my colleagues. My hope is that the students I have will be able to have the same type of experiences by applying the tools I give them in their lessons. Read More

I am a very passionate and motivated teacher who works with students of all ages. I believe that whether you are learning as a hobby or have the aspirations to make it a career, the focus of your studies needs to come from your love of music and the joy it brings you. I have had a long time interest in education, helping students of all ages and skill level. In Nashville he previously taught at the Nashville School of Rock and currently works for Vanderbilt University. As a freelancing musician diversity of skills is an important trait. I have primarily worked as a guitarist in live and studio settings, which in themselves are two different worlds, but have expanded to include audio engineering and production, drawing heavily from my background in theory and composition to make the best of each project I works on. I first started teaching in high school, where I would help fellow students with upright bass technique and reading music notation. In college, I assisted other musicians in reading jazz charts and interpreting chord symbols. However, it was from the tutelage of my many instructors that helped me craft an effective teaching style. They taught me everything from basic rudiments to principles key to developing an advanced, distinctive playing style. Read More

I like to work with students toward their goals. Setting achievable goals with the student and guiding them as they accomplish the goals. My teaching style is to mentor and coach students so they enjoy their time playing music as well as see their progress. Helping each student with the individual challenges the encounter is a priority, and every student is unique. I always take time to find out what inspires the student and tailor the lessons and repertoire so they enjoy the music they are working on. Read More

While there is no "One-size-fits-all" for all students, I start most students off with Essential Elements or Suzuki. As they progress I try to include pieces they like, pop songs, and different genres. The variety helps them stay engaged, learn a bit about different styles to broaden their knowledge, but also, have fun. As they get intermediate levels the paths diverge. Some of my students are doing Jazz improvisation, some of them, composition, and others are getting ready to audition for college. Read More
