I began teaching private lessons while in college, teaching classical, electric and acoustic guitar. For the past 5 years that I have been in Nashville I have been teaching again for the last 2. I have experience in teaching students as young as 5 and as old as 65. There is no age limit on learning! Something I was always told in my lessons both, as a teenager and in college was that it is vastly more important to practice a little each day than to try and cram a marathon session into one day. I'm a big believer in personal goals and achievements. I like to ask my students what they hope to accomplish from their lessons, and tailor my lesson plan to meet their goals. My biggest concern is keeping the instrument fun for the student, and not letting it feel like a chore. I feel that a student is most likely to excel when they experience joy from their instrument, so to help keep the instrument fresh, I like to provide exercises that are challenging and rewarding, in addition to the regular curriculum. I have been teaching students off and on since 2007. Regular practice has always been encouraged to my students, but I encourage even more to find the love in learning and playing music. Regardless of age or skill level, my students are all equal to me. As a beginner, learning a new intstrument can be tedious, but that is the pathway of finding the love in the instrument. No matter if my students want to be versatile like myself, use the intrument to accompany themselves, or pursue music as a living or hobby, I will encourage them to share what they have learned to their families and to the public. I am not a taskmaster. I will gladly give homework and direction for what to practice, but it is not my job to berate students for not practicing as much as I would like them to. Everyone understands that music requires regular practice, and I believe that if it is worth it to a student to find the time to improve rapidly, they will make that time. I think my job is to meet you where you are every lesson, whether you want to invest hours a day into your improvement or whether this is a casual hobby. Read More

No matter the age of the student, I believe in project-based learning: I help my them write songs, make arrangements, record albums, and prepare for recitals. They will develop a respect for the craft of making music, the more creatively involved they are. A list of a couple highly recommended instruction books is given to each student on their first day. This is to help them grasp the basic language of their instrument. Read More
