Instruments: Bass Guitar

Upon graduating from high school, I started teaching bass lessons when possible and quickly fell in love with teaching. I specialize in taking a practical approach to teaching, where there is more emphasis on the instrument as it tends to keep students interested and motivated through the difficult early stages. I personally invest myself into each student and strive to help them reach their own personal musical goals. It is important to have mutual trust and friendship in the teaching process and I believe I do a very good job at making students comfortable in a healthy learning environment. Read More

Instruments: Trumpet Bass Guitar Double Bass

My first teaching experience was in 2009 as a music tutor at Schenectady County Community College where I helped students with music theory and ear training while earning my Associates degree in music. Also at this time I began teaching private students the electric bass guitar. At SUNY Fredonia I began teaching double bass lessons to non-music majors focusing equally on classical, jazz, and folk traditions. Since then I have worked at Peabody as a Graduate Teaching Fellow and was part of the Junior Bach outreach program, learningto teach music theory, ear training, analyisis, musicianship, and composition, including the use of notation software like Sibelius. My teaching style is all about building good foundation for students to build on and find the best way from them to be successful and fulfilled. I will give them achievable obstacles from them to over come and over time make them better players and people. Read More

My approach varies depending on the student's skill level and chosen instrument, but for beginners I always try to get them familiarized with their instrument: teaching them the basics of reading music and how to navigate the different keys (or strings, etc.). From there I start teaching various musical concepts, the rudiments of music theory, and begin introducing them to different styles of music. When the student is advanced enough, I start having them run through my own custom designed technique and skill drills, and have them start selecting music that they would like to perform on their own. Instruments: Guitar Trumpet Trombone Bass Guitar Euphonium Acoustic Guitar

While I am a classically trained musician, I believe that a student will best learn when presented with material that they are passionate about. A student's curiosity will drive learning far more than any other source, so any directions I can help foster in a student, I will take that opportunity. If students are struggling, I have a wealth of resources and materials of my own which I can offer for new routes of study, or lesson plans to stimulate learning. Read More

I always want my students to strive, as I do, toward an ideal, without an attachment to the result.  For example, if a student wants to play like Jimi Hendrix and become a Rock Star, we will talk about what it takes to reach that goal and work (and play) diligently and enthusiastically toward it, and when difficulties inevitably arise, that's OK.  Keep up the practice and you will most likely reach your goal. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm.
