I am an enthusiastic young teacher who takes great pride in watching my students achieve their musical goals. I have been playing music since I was a child, with 15 years experience on the bass guitar alone. I have been touring regionally and nationally with my main project, Electric Love Machine, since 2014 and recently won the 2016 Maryland Music Award for Best Electronic Artist. Traveling around the country has taught me many things about musical diversity and has added many more influences to my personal repertoire. Read More

My preferred piano method is Piano Adventures and I recommend using the Lesson, Theory, and Sight Reading books at each level. For guitar and voice I typically do not follow any specific method unless the student has a preference. For more advance piano students I typically will begin using Suzuki or move them to Burgmller Etudes and Schumann's Opus 68 - Album for the Young. I perform an assessment of new students in the areas of sight reading, music theory, rhythm, performance, and ear training. Read More

I am a big believer in creating a space for students to explore their musical interests. The most important part of music lessons is the development of a relationship between teacher and student. From this, great things can happen. Learning a musical instrument is difficult and developing regular practice habits is one of biggest challenges that students encounter. I have found that establishing rapport and trust, and out of that creating a fun environment, is the best way to foster an atmosphere that will inspire the student to pick up their instrument outside the lesson. I can't remember a time when I wasn't singing, banging on the family piano, or making joyful noise with whatever could be hit, shaken or kicked. I got a guitar at age ten--blame the Beatles!-- took some lessons, learned some songs by ear, and was giving my first lesson before I was out of high school. I studied music formally at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., graduating Cum Laude. Read More

I have taught music for 8 years and have taught ages 4-70. In my experience, patience and flexibility is the key as everyone learns at different paces and in different ways. I do my best to listen to the student and teach to their comfort level and have recieved very good reviews for it. The best feeling for me as a teacher is to see at the end of a lesson that the child is not only smiling, but objectively better at their instrument than when they arrived. Read More

My approach seeks to breathe air under the wings of the students' interest and attention by making them a constant starting point, while also laying the groundwork of introspection for students to develop and apply their own practices of learning, exploration, and innovation going forward. My teaching methods focus on considering embodied experiences of music, as well as a range of philosophical considerations. Students will be encouraged to think about how feelings, subjectivities, sounds, and spaces interact in complex ways, along with a series of other metaphysical questions that I believe are essential to a holistic praxis of understanding and learning music.
