I have been teaching private lessons since 2006 and love doing so. I volunteered at my arts high school for 2 years helping with all of the Jazz Band, AP Music Theory, and private instruction in multiple instruments. In 2009 I graduated from Cooperative Arts & Humanities Magnet High School focusing in Music. During my time there I also took AP Music Theory classes, as well as attended 2 summer and winter programs through the Yale School of Music. Read More

I have been teaching guitar since 2015. I taught guitar lessons at the Family Melody Center in Patchogue, NY for 5 years. From there I went on to teach privately in my own home studio. I can also come to you as well. All my students learn to read standard notation as well as tabs. I teach rock, blues, country, pop, but my specialty is classical guitar. While attending NCC I fell in love with classical guitar music, not only because it is beautiful but because it is very challenging. Read More

I have been teaching music since I attended high school and have continued to do so for the past 6 years. Improvisation and expression are key points I like to emphasize in all my students, as anyone can sit down and practice scales until their fingers fall off, but being able to express yourself through a musical instrument takes dedicated work and direction. My students are made to create as much as they are made to perform, as understanding how music works and the theory behind it is achievable regardless of level or age. Read More

I have had the privilege to make my leaving as both a musical performer and teacher for over thirty years. In that time I have taught and played many different styles of music. I have studied jazz with Steve Khan, classical with Jerry Willard, alternate tuned fingerstyle guitar with Peter Lang, bass with Jerry Jemmott...I am still an avid student of the craft and art of music and teaching. I teach more than 35 years now. It is a great experience combined of mostly private lessons and classroom experience. I am trying to motivate my students according to their interests and also buy using a worldly music knowledge that we inherited form generations of musicians who ever lived on Earth. Works of contemporary musicians are also used as a great tool for inspiration of my students. I encourage my students to performing public, even in a very small scale. Read More

Depending upon what area/instrument of music I'm teaching, I use a number of different materials, including (but not limited to) Tonal Harmony (Kostka, et al.), Essential Dictionary of Music Notation, Accent on Achievement, Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, or Rock House Method (McCarthy). The skill level of the student also dictates what resources I'll use. In addition, I believe that the student should have control over his/her development as a musician, so I encourage my students to create a list of songs they wish to learn how to play. Read More

I initially have a student work on a series of simple fingering exercises. This gets the student familiar with the feel of the instrument and helps to reinforce how the left and right hands work together when performing. Another benefit is that it helps the student to build speed/dexterity when playing. When these exercises/techniques have been mastered I then introduce the student to concepts such as notes, scales, intervals, basic chord structure, etc. Read More
