Instruments: Piano Violin Music
I put great emphasis on establishing a very good control on the technique of violin. I do it by teaching students how to do scales and etudes while having fun and making themselves more motivated by setting their own goals and achieving them, which also builds up their confidence. After students get more and more in command of themselves and the violin, I would then proceed to help the students with their own repertoire and guide them to formulate their own musical ideas and make their own voice be heard! To me, the student's journey ALWAYS comes first, and I believe that is why I have been able to have been teaching for 20 years. Most of my students stay with me for up to 11 years as I teach them how to speak music fluently by studying several genres and perhaps multiple instruments. I am extremely passionate about each of my students, being very diligent to 'see' the individual for who they are, sculpt and carve a very unique custom path to success on their instrument. Read More

My preferred method of teaching for beginner students is my own adaptation of the Thompson method with strong emphasis on theory and technique. A study of intervalic relationships, chords and progressions combined with terminology, sight reading, ear training and form will provide the student with skills which will allow them to play any style and genre of music they desire. Although the Suzuki method seems to be popular today, I have discovered many short comings of this pedagogical approach and often renders a good pianist limited in their capabilities as a well rounded musician. My name is Abbey, and I have been teaching piano for over 18 years, both privately and at a music academy. I specialize in beginners of all ages, and I also teach through the intermediate level. My passion is to teach my students how to read music and gift them the beauty and joy of playing the piano. I would love to work with you! The youngest students I teach are 5 or 6 years old, and I have no age cap for adults! Read More
Instruments: Piano
As I taught private piano students, I constructed my lesson plans very carefully with clear objectives and goals. I try to provide every student with rich experience, while applying different teaching methods to each individual according to their learning styles, abilities, personality and cultural background. As for group piano classes, many students were not piano players; compared to my private students who were very high level, I taught fundamental piano skills for these non-piano major music students classes, which were in fact difficult. Instruments: Piano Voice
I typically begin scales and exercises early on and prefer Hanon and Czerny exercises for strength and coordination development. For voice students, depending on age and musical genre, I will work with the student on healthy singing by good breath control, releasing any tension and learning how to articulate words without interfering with vocal production. Selections can include classical art songs, opera, musical theater, light opera (G&S) and pop music. Read More
