My method is divided in two categories: Application and theory. For beginning students we work on basic motor skills for the instrument. Through simple exercises, utilizing patterns from diagrams, most students gain a proficiency at handling the instruments within weeks. During this time students are also introduced to the notes and common chords, learning their names, titles and relationships to each other on the fretboard. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
