I have been teaching not only music but other subjects such as computer science, mathematics, English, and social studies since I was in high school. I have served as a teaching assistant through graduate school and have taught in both private and classroom settings. I am comfortable with all ages. My goal is to balance a musical education with other elements such as self-confidence, focus, concentration, and of course fun! Read More

I think that having a good frame of reference for what something is supposed to sound like makes being able to learn to play it a bit easier - no guessing! As progress is made we continue to learn more technique and theory, but always contextualizing with real word musical examples. I find that this not only helps the material stick, but also makes practicing much more engaging and fun! Read More

I have been involved in music for most of my life; it is simply who I am. From teaching and composing to arranging and producing, all aspects of this art intrigue me and give me great satisfaction to share with others. I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2015 with a Bachelor of the Arts in Music Composition and a minor in Management. It has been my pleasure to perform all over the city of Chicago, from the House of Blues and the Bottom Lounge, to Chicago Acoustic Underground and Reggies. Read More

I also led the weekly performance programs with up to 25 students, preparing them for seasonal shows at popular venues. I have extensive in-home and online teaching experience as well, which includes arranging optimal commute schedules and recitals at schools and theaters. So, whether the student is a kindergartner singing ABC by Jackson 5, a 14-year-old learning recording basics, a 19-year-old preparing for a national theatre competition, a 40-year-old learning melody writing, or a 70-year-old learning the keys to Tell Me Something Good by Rufus, I can creatively adapt to the student's unique learning style and background on many different instruments. My methods all depend on the students' needs and/or wishes; one lesson plan/method does not necessarily fit all students. Especially with adult students I think it is essential to cater to the students' goal. If this involves the need to learn certain techniques, requires knowledge of music theory or the ability to read music, I will advise the student so. From there we can set up a lesson plan and practice schedule that creates a path towards obtaining the students' original goals. Read More

My lessons will be made up of: 1) Custom exercises tailored to your needs and ability. 2) Understanding musical physiology. 3) Ear training. 4) Accessing a healthy technique that does not cause pain. 5) How to share emotion in your performance. 6) Finding your artistic personality. After the lessons you will get feedback from me and steps to practice on your own. I use a variety of teaching books and songs that students find most engaging. Read More

I've found that the most effective way to teach fundamentals is to do it within the context of my students' favorite songs. This provides instant gratification as the student is able to play something they know and like while at the same time they're learning the techniques they'll need for more complicated challenges in the future. For younger students who haven't developed their own taste in music yet I introduce them to songs of many different styles so that they can start to determine where they want to go musically in the future.
