Typically, I favor using traditional curriculum for beginning students (Alfred, Faber, Bastian). As a student progresses we typically incorporate Clemeneti sonatinas and the students favorite pop/modern songs. When a student achieves an advanced level of difficulty curriculum is purchased depending on the student's goals, college aspirations, and learning objectives. Depending on the level the student is at I will work with them where they are at and what is needed. If a beginning student I will usually start off with working on scales and use visual tools such as books to help aid the process. As with methods, I do not have one lesson style.  My approach with a three year old is different than with a seventy year old. I am detailed in my critiques, but patient, positive, and creative with explanations.  My goal is for the students to learn to love and appreciate music and for them to use it not as a short term goal, but as something they can live with and enjoy for the rest of their lives.  I sets appropriate goals with recitals, festivals and examinations to both motivate and encourage students, ensuring that they have a positive experience. My background is in musical theater and I have sung, acted and danced my way around the world. I love what I do and love to share this passion with my students. I get the greatest joy out of helping my students connect with their own voices, gain confidence and see them grow as a person and as artists.
