I am an instructor who is passionate and motivated about both music and teaching. While working on a degree in Psychology at Grand Valley State University in Michigan, I also studied music theory and other musical topics. I began playing bass guitar around 1978 and have played in bands, done session work and given music lessons in Michigan and the midwest ever since. I was born in Ukraine in 1977. At the age of 18 I was introduced to one of the"jazz guitar greats" who taught me theory and improvisation. Those lessons lit a fire inside me that has only grown stronger with time.I founded the band, Shykina, in 1997 and toured Europe for the next 6 years, releasing 3 albums. I then transferred to Queens University of Charlotte to continue studies with Robert Teixeira, and was awarded the Queens University Performer of the Year in 2008. After earning my Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance in 2008, I went on to study with Christopher Berg at the University of South Carolina, graduating with a Masters of Music in Guitar Performance in 2011.
