I consider the greatest and most rewarding aspect of teaching to be seeing and hearing a student gain the ability to play an instrument and thereby to become a musician. And I believe the only way to really accomplish this is to meet a student where they're at, become aware of their musical interests and goals, and to be a guiding voice that can help them work towards those goals in a more efficient way than they could on there own. To begin, I will start with chords and scales to get a student used to understanding of notes and progressions. Next, I would go over theory and technique in order to blossom a stylistic way of playing for the student. Next, I would start with simple etudes and pieces for each student to learn and master. Afterwards, the student will choose a piece they want to learn. Finally, the student will decide the genre and style of later pieces they would like to learn. Read More

For me, it is easier for me to hear a rhythm or melody while looking at it. It is easier for me to grasp and understand the rhythm and melody in terms of the context of the piece. Same with my teaching. I will always demonstrate a scale or rhythm or chord for a student before having the student attempt it by themselves. After we work through the example together, I will have them try playing it alone and if a particular area needs to be fixed I will address it, make sure the student understands, and move on from there. I often teach by using a book of my choice as a lesson guide.I generally start every lesson by practicing finger exercises by running up and down the neck and also practice alternating the fingers with the picking hand. This is proper technique that will develop great speed and also great tone. After the exercises we go through the lessons outlined in the book.At the end of each lesson,I give my students, assignments to practice in their spare time ,which are based on the exercises from book. They are usually things that we have gone through during the lessons.I encourage my students to call or text me if it's something that they don't understand.I am more than happy to be of assistance.
