  Music is my heart felt passion, and I thoroughly enjoy the oppotunities of sharing my musical knowledge and experiences with my students.  I am a degreed music teacher, who travels to teach in Raleigh and  surrounding areas including Knightdale, Wendel, Garner and Clayton.  I first began teaching guitar and piano during my music studies at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. I consider the greatest and most rewarding aspect of teaching to be seeing and hearing a student gain the ability to play an instrument and thereby to become a musician. And I believe the only way to really accomplish this is to meet a student where they're at, become aware of their musical interests and goals, and to be a guiding voice that can help them work towards those goals in a more efficient way than they could on there own. Most of my teaching experience so far has been in the concert/marching band, teaching middle school band and high school and university marching percussion ensembles, which I have been doing for the last eight years. I have also taught individual percussion lessons to high school and college students off and on throughout my undergraduate and graduate careers. I have taught drum set lessons for five years so far. My performance experience includes seven years of marching band, eleven years of concert band/wind ensemble, two years of orchestra, five years of drumming for the worship team, three years drumming with Depot Street, and one year drumming with Crimson Sunset. In 1977, I graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Performance. In 1999, I was certified to teach Music K-12 by the state of North Carolina after attending NC Central University.
