I began teaching when I was 15 years old, which was around the year 1984,in Brooklyn NY.I studied music at Samuel J Tilden High School and taught bass at Meyer Levin J.H.S two afternoons a week after school..In 1989 I moved to Charlotte NC, attended college and began working in various bands.I had to stop teaching for a short period of time due to my busy gig schedule. It wasn't long before I discovered that there was something missing in my life, and that something was teaching music.I have taught students from the ages of 9,which is the age that I started playing, all the way up to 60 years old.I encourage my students to practice and to have fun at the same time.I want them to not be afraid to try something such as listening to their favorite music and attempting to play it by ear. That is what I did when I was taking lessons. It is good training for the ear. When I see my students develop their craft and a love for music, that is one of the greatest feelings. As a teacher of private students who hope to learn a specific instrument, or a specific set of pieces, I focus a lot on understanding the student as a person and as a musician. Read More

Many challenges come along the way with students, and I make it a goal to attack problem areas efficiently and effectively so that the most progress can be made while still maintaining enjoyment. What I've found is that students appreciate this method because it shows that I am paying attention and that I do care about their progress. Read More

Playing, performing, and teaching music have been an important part of my life from an early age. While growing up I was surrounded by music and the performance arts. Most everybody in my family sings and/or plays an instrument. I started participating in stage productions as well as playing a ukulele (which I still have!) around the age of three. As young person, I participated in chorus and stage productions as well as a few "garage" bands. Read More
