I am a relatively new teacher! I've been a musician all my life, but only recently started teaching children and young adults how to play instruments or how to collaborate musically. I have found that teaching is an important part of being a musician, and I'm very excited to find new students. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Guitar For Kids. For teenage and adult students I use Hal Leonard's Guitar Method Complete Edition. For classical guitar students I use Aaron Shearer's Learning the Classic Guitar Volume 2. After a student has a grasp over basic technique, chords, and reading I like to split the lesson between book work (note reading) and teaching students to play songs that they enjoy. Read More

Every student is different, with different goals, different passions, and different backgrounds. So every student needs a different teaching method. I prefer to spend some time in the first lesson getting to know the student and his or her background to determine what specific methods work best for them. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.
