Every student starts or resumes classes at different levels. My job is to recognize that level and proceed accordingly. I like my students to be able to learn and progress at the rate they can or want to. Letting students let you know what they want to learn and at what pace, helps the student as well as the teacher in that progress. I like to tell my students that they will not only be a good player, but know exactly what they are doing. Read More

Over the years I've really come to appreciate being a music instructor. I've never found it boring. Its always interesting and a great opportunity to grow as well. I've been playing music in Bands, Orchestras, and Jazz Ensembles since 1975. I've recorded multiple albums of my own original music. Nowadays I spend most of my musical time teaching, composing, and recording original music. I have great passion for electronic music in particular and enjoy working with synthesizers, software, and other various analog and digital devices. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my before my college days. By the time I was finishing high school, I had already graduated from a 4 year music program, and I was already teaching students of all ages. I began teaching private lessons part time 13 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students for the last 4 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I believe goals are very important in order to progress. However, each student progresses at their own pace. I like setting small goals weekly, and often times incorporate techniques into songs. Seeing students achieve their goals is one of the most rewarding aspects of the job. I'll ask students to bring pencil and paper to each lesson and will designate technical goals, fretboard knowledge, and whatever the student's goal is (learning a song, another scale, solo part, etc). If, at some point, some smaller goal materializes, on we go. If you are the type who craves a lot of pressure from a teacher, I am more than capable of piling that on for you; just don't count on me to be "upset" at you for not practicing, since years of experience have told me that this does practically nothing good for anyone involved. I do not consider it my job to motivate you to be interested in music. Read More

I always teach proper technique, music reading, and eventually some music theory. If a student is just beginning, they need a method book to track their progress. I usually use Hal Leanord's guitar method. Besides this book, there should be a blank manuscript booklet for any extracurricular songs or concepts that aren't included in the book. Weekly lessons are ideal for building on the fundamentals, as any longer, the student may be memorizing bad habits or forget the proper way to play. Read More

I start my lessons with asking the student to give me their top 10 favorites songs that they would like to learn and based on their level I will select one song to start. I start with the essential elements of theory and basic chords. Once the student has progressed I will beging to introduce different styles of music to find out what the student is interested in, and build a lesson's plan designed specifically fot the student and keeping the motivation and fun classes regardless of their ability level. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
