My teaching style obviously is contingent on the level and interests of the student I am paired with. When it comes to guitar and bass, it depends mostly on whether the student is interested in learning songs, or becoming a well rounded musician. If songs is the main goal, we'll start with the easiest levels of the styles the student is interested in and work our way forward, focusing on timing and rhythm at first. Read More

Since I fully understand the importance of practicing and studying, I always do my best to keep my students engaged and motivated by rewarding their efforts, by pushing them towards higher standards, and by challenging their talent, interests and abilities. I take the time to get to know my students beyond their musical studies and I try to incorporate other areas of their lives in our music lessons in order to create meaningful contexts that apply to the uniqueness of each student. Philosophy on Music- There is imitation and creation, but to truly create one must first learn the established forms before one can break them. Eventually through discipline to these forms, one will see these forms not as absolutes governors, but instead a variety of tools that aid us in our artistic expression and enjoyment. I have been teaching private lessons since 1979. There is no greater joy for me than to see that spark of learning ignite and grow as my students discover that they can make music too. I tailor my lessons to match the goals of the student. Many of my students aspire to become professionals and others simply want to have fun with music. Whatever the reason a student chooses to pick up an instrument and play, my ultimate goal is to make sure that they learn the music that will inspire them to play. Read More

I enjoy creating lesson plans that I read from other books and use the books to help demonstrate and support the lesson I'm teaching. and to follow the guidelines for teaching. Read More

I was raised into a family of music and heard classic/southern rock, blues, bluegrass and pop hits performed live at family get togethers throughout my youth. I played Euphonium in a concert setting through high school as well as the Baritone in marching band. My native instrument is the electric guitar but I have studied heavily with acoustic material as well as bass guitar. I have had the opportunity to teach a few different age groups as well and it inspires me to continue teaching no matter the age group. Read More

I am a teacher who looks to make music both fun and rewarding. As well as teaching the student how to make beautiful music, I also try and tie in our lessons as a way to becoming a better citizen. The habits that we form as a musicians will help us as individuals. Things like setting and working towards goals, tracking and monitoring progress, and educating ourselves beyond the lesson room are all things that will serve my students as individuals, no matter what discipline or situation that they will find themselves in down the road.
