Philosophy on Music- There is imitation and creation, but to truly create one must first learn the established forms before one can break them. Eventually through discipline to these forms, one will see these forms not as absolutes governors, but instead a variety of tools that aid us in our artistic expression and enjoyment. Philosophy as an Educator- To be an effective educator I believe that one must not only create a curriculum and pay attention to the individual needs of their students, but one must also provide an environment that fosters growth. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students each lesson. Read More

I personally really enjoy the Hal Leonard series of method books for guitar and bass. I find them comprehensive, but not bloated, and very easy to understand without being dumbed down at all. I plan to use the Guitar Method and Bass Method books, both Complete Edition (comprised of Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced method books), in combination with the Hal Leonard Music Theory book, which is aimed at stringed instruments. I happily teach at a pace that is comfortable for the student. If he or she only has time for a couple hours of practice a week, then we will progress at an equally stable pace in our lessons. I like to use written theory and ear training, but only if the student wants to learn with that technique. Guitarists and bassists can study tab with me as well. I encourage the student to bring in music they are excited about learning as the students often expose me to great music I may not have been familiar with before. Read More

I am a versatile performer who graduated from The University of Denver in 2008 and have toured the midwest with a rock band. I taught guitar with Musika from 2009 to 2011. I look forward to teaching my students even more about the vast knowledge I have accrued both in performance and teaching. The biggest gigs I have ever played was with my band at Monona Terrace in Madison Wisconsin and with The London Symphony Chorus. Read More

I am a musician and a composer who values teaching music as one of the best jobs in the world. I started playing music at the age of 7. My parents enrolled me at a music school for kids to learn guitar (there wasn't a bass teacher at that school...) Having captured the basics, I switched to bass later and since then it is my primary instrument, which I combine with guitar and baritone guitar. Read More

So I want my students to come away not only with an understanding of how to play, not only with knowledge of what they're hearing and even how they're hearing it, but importantly, an enjoyment of the instrument and a respect for it's difficulties. More concretely, students should expect to receive handouts and homework for each lesson, as well as recommendations for music apps they can use. As alluded to earlier, we'll work out of some books, but I just copy and print the pages we need so there's no need to spend extra cash. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
