I believe that this takes a very personal and trusting relationship between student and teacher. I feel that my responsibility is to decipher the student's most natural way to absorb information and to play into that strength. I am also accountable for refining the student's natural abilities while fostering emerging creativity in order to hone a balanced and effective musical person. The student will progress to have a firm knowledge of understanding, composing, communicating, and performing music. Read More

I have been a performing and teaching professional for over 25 years and released over 20 albums with many different artists. Since I was in my early twenties, I have performed throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and Central America. I bring my experience to the lesson room through a thorough and varied approach to harmony, technique, sight-reading, improvisation and performance techniques. Acoustic and electric bass are my primary instruments, but I teach to advanced level on guitar and ukulele, beginning piano, and in multiple genres of music. Read More

I like working with students in a way where our love of music is the center of our attention, as such musicality is always the goal. For beginner students who’d like to sight-read, I like to start with the Alfred Modern Guitar Method 1 and supplement that with the Mel Bay Modern Guitar Method, Grade 1, or Frederick Noad’s Solo Guitar 1 if we’re learning classical guitar. Alternatively, if the student wishes to take a route in which he/she does not sight-read musical notation, I like to start with basic picking technique, proper guitar positioning, reading tabs and chord diagrams. The dedication it takes to learn an instrument can help develop skills values that will benefit the student throughout life, regardless of profession. Therefore, I believe that the process of learning music is more important than any particular performance that we work toward, so I take a pragmatic approach to instruction. Of course, we look forward to recitals and concerts, because they give our rehearsals direction, but it should also be emphasized that our most rewarding musical experiences may happen in lessons or private practice. Art and music are about compassion, sharing, empathy, and humanity, anyone who decides to learn a musical instrument, or simply admire music and learn its ways even if you don't want to make a living out of it, will surely become a better human being. For just about any instrument, a key approach of mine is to teach students how to play the songs they love - and then the musical building blocks that make up said songs. Then, I teach the rudiments, patterns, and music theory behind those building blocks, and teach the students to be able to figure this all out on their own in the future through ear-training. I tend to like the Essential Elements series for band instruments, the Alfred books for piano and guitar, the Real Book for a wide variety of jazz repertoire. Read More

I have been teaching music for many years. I enjoy watching my students progress in the learning process. I always ask what the student wants to learn such as style, a song, etc. I also accompany them playing the piano or guitar once they have learned the basic techniques, etc. This also helps them working with other musicians or singers. My teaching style varies. I do make recommendations such as teaching out of a Hal Leonard instructions books (for beginners) and or CD's Play along CD's. , Chord Theories, voicing s and improvisational techniques for the intermediate students ( i.e. basic blues) if they choose to.
