I have the same approach to teaching beginner and intermediate piano. Again, we learn our notes in five finger position and then we learn to read time signatures, notes in the treble clef, chords, and rhythms, as well as playing complete songs. When they are more serious, I try to establish a 45 minute practice regiment that the student should do everyday that can range from certain warm ups, scales and even sight reading if the student is inclined to dive into that musical world. I am primarily a percussionist, with over 10 years of expierience playing and performing in jazz bands, marching bands, musical theatre, small ensembles, wind ensembles, and symphonies, and I was the principle percussionist for 2 years while I was in college. I also have 5 years of expierience on the trumpet, 15 years of guitar, as well as expierience with many other instruments.
