Although this is highly recommended, I create different lesson plans for each individual student. I typically use and coach students from "Stick Control: for the snare drummer", "Syncopation for the modern drummer" and "The Blue Book" for drums. For beginning students typically start with Drum Set For Kids by Hal Leonard. In this book after playing lessons each one has a song to play along to with a recording. This makes learning this book fun for studemts. I also like to focus on hand technique and all of the basics for playing Drums. For beginning drum set students, the program I recommend is starting with Drum Set Essentials by Peter Erskine. As skills in rudiments and basic patterns develop, I go on to materials such as Syncopation by Ted Reed (reading,coordination,technique), and Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone (technique).
