ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Thelma Yelin High School of Arts, Tel Aviv. Jazz Music.

Awards:

Grammy - like award for "Best Original Duet Of 2012. (Session drummer).

Outstanding album of the year 2015 with the band Seek Irony.

Overview:
My name is Rom and I’m the drummer for the band Seek Irony. My band and I are originally from Tel Aviv, Israel and we recently relocated to our new home base of Austin, TX.   I’ve been playing drums since I was eight years old. I recorded my first demo when I was ten, and played my first show at a club in Tel Aviv at the age of eleven. I graduated from the jazz music department of Israel’s most prestigious high school of the arts, Thelma Yelin. I believe that a lesson should be fun, easy, and challenging at the same time. As a teacher, the thing that is the most important to me, is to inspire my students. There is nothing better than making a student feel like he wants to go home and practice.
EXPERIENCE
Apart from being the drummer for Seek Irony, I worked as a professional session drummer for ten years before moving to the US about a year and a half ago. I used to play drums for half of the music industry in Israel. So far, I’ve recorded drums on over fifty records and performed over a thousand shows in my drumming career.Right before moving to the US, I was asked to record drums for a special musical project on a song that involved Israel and China’s top singers and was meant to celebrate a twenty-year anniversary of diplomacy between the two countries. The song was recorded half in Tel Aviv and half in Beijing. A year later this song ended up picking up a Grammy-like award for “Best Original Duet of 2012” in China, which was an amazing surprise and definitely a highlight of my drumming career so far. Since moving to the US, I’ve recorded drums for numerous Texas artists in different genres, from country to rock, metal, blues, and EDM. I’ve had the privilege to play live for amazing songwriters and performers. METHODS USED
I like to teach the way I learned how to play the drums.  We will cover everything. How to get good hand control and techniques. Read music. Learn how to play with music! That's the most important as a drummer. Grooves. FillIs. I like to teach with books but also with songs.  It's all about having fun! The one thing I feel that a lot of teachers don't teach is how to practice. I'll show a fun way to practice and make the most out of your time. I always tell my students that I'm here to teach them how to teach themselves.
LESSON STYLE
I like to teach with books but also with songs.  It's all about having fun! I have different routines and practice methods. The idea is to keep things positive and challenge free. Working with a metronome is a key factor for finding the right tempo to make sure that the student will feel comfortable while he or she is practicing the information. The idea is to break things down to a point where things are doable and super easy to deal with . We learn new information every lesson which means new vocabulary and develop our skills with playing the things we learned a bit faster every lesson.

Rom is an awesome drum instructor. I've had three one-hour lessons already and I am super happy. He's great in showing how what you're practicing will come together in the long run. He works at a pace that is comfortable for you, but still encourages you to challenge yourself by practicing at faster beats per minute, only once you've mastered the exercises at home. I bought a used electric drum set from Guitar Center for a decent price. Practicing is key. He's very organized and writes down what to work on for homework each week. He prints out sheets for you to take home. Mistakes are okay during the review at the beginning of the lessons. He gives great feedback on how to be better and gives personal experiences on what has worked for him. Overall, he is a super cool dude. I highly recommend!
