I am very passionate about drums and started teaching about 4years ago and I have helped many students get to where they want to get on their instrument. If there at level three but haven't touched 16th note triplets and go from there. Both students I've taught have had entirely different goals, one just trying to learn drumset and the other wanting to learn a song for his talent show. I am full of energy and love learning as much as I can, but I also understand that full and in depth skill requires time and a certain level of patience and consistency. I relay this to students by repetition (specifically of principles), though I keep it fun and exciting by varying the application. Once the principle is fully grasped, we move on. I believe in the philosophy of and empty cup. My lessons are not built for me to tell the student what to do, but rather learn how they learn and research the best practices for reaching that student. There is no "cookie cutter" method that works for all students, because everyone learns and comprehends a little bit differently. I remain sensitive to that and patient with my students. It always gets me when a student that is stuck on a part of their music finally understands and performs the passage perfectly. Read More
