I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 1997, I graduated from Westmar University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Percussion Performance. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play in New York, as well as touring all over the world. Hey! My name's David and I can't wait to meet you and show you how to get into music! I started percussion in 6th grade but I believe that you can start whenever if you really want to. Since then I've grown immensely, both through my own practice and through playing with many ensembles, including but not limited to the Seven Lakes High School Wind Ensemble, the Meadows Jazz Orchestra, the Meadows Symphony Orchestra, and Meadows Percussion Ensemble. Worked in a professional recording studio so I could get studio time and recorded my first single with a b side. Read More

I start beginners with the drum rudiments and chart reading. This gets them able to move their hands and feet for better coordination. After they have better coordination I introduce ear training which is playing along to their favorite songs. This teaches the student how toplay with a band. For older advanced students I give a listening test to see where they are as a student then I teach accordingly. Read More

I am full of energy and love learning as much as I can, but I also understand that full and in depth skill requires time and a certain level of patience and consistency. I relay this to students by repetition (specifically of principles), though I keep it fun and exciting by varying the application. Once the principle is fully grasped, we move on. I also give light, yet fun x22homeworkx22 assignments to keep the student engaged and thinking about music outside of the lesson. Read More

My teaching styles are ever-changing but first and foremost I strive to meet the student where they are at in their musical journey, work in small chunks and learn to love the act of learning. Timing, technique, tuning, dynamics, timbre, music theory, writing, recording, listening improvisation (and more) are all crucial to being a modern musician but the most important of these is fun. If you aren't enjoying my teaching then I am not doing my job correctly. Read More

It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13. Along the way I have had the honor of meeting and learning from respected musicians such as Lawrence Jackson (former director of SU Bands), Herman Jackson (Brother of Randy Jackson), Jerry Lee Lane (Marching percussion pioneer) and countless others.
