I'm relatively new to the teaching life, but I love it regardless. I started in September of 2018 with one student who I taught throughout the semester, and seeing him grow throughout the months was satisfying unlike anything else I've experienced. I taught one student a semester due to my school commitments but still managed to teach them a lot and open their eyes to the world of music. For beginning students (regardless of age instrument) I try to simplify the approach and work on a set of warm ups/exercises coupled with a performance piece or song that they can feel good about and lots of fun listening assignments. From there I have a few options of instruction methods that I tailor to the individual student. More intermediate/advanced students will not escape from some of the basics (metronome, scales, rudiments etc.) but will be met with many more choices of performance material based more on their individual goals. I am full of energy and love learning as much as I can, but I also understand that full and in depth skill requires time and a certain level of patience and consistency. I relay this to students by repetition (specifically of principles), though I keep it fun and exciting by varying the application. Once the principle is fully grasped, we move on. If there at level three but haven't touched 16th note triplets and go from there.
