I can produce well-rounded performers that thrive in their craft and have a strong sense of purpose and meaning in their art. This innovative strategy has yielded outstanding outcomes, impacting both my clients and the community. Individualized learning and mentorship help my pupils achieve their best and become independent musicians who are confident in their abilities and talents. There is nothing more rewarding and powerful than seeing students and their families discover their child's talents. Read More

I began teaching in college as a hobby, and as a method for solidifying the skills that I myself was learning. After I graduated, I continued to teach friends for fun and for the experience. Today, I teach as a means of keeping music in my life and sharing traditions that are special to me. Read More

I can teach any skill level. If you are beginning with zero experience, the first thing I teach is middle C. It's the center of the universe as far as the piano is concerned. I also teach 'spider position', which is how the student wants to have their hands positioned. Intermediate students can dictate to me what they want to work on. If they just want to learn "Charlie Brown" I can teach that, or if they want a more regimented lesson plan I can do that as well. I also have advanced students. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for what they are learning. I therfore believe that it is important for each student to progress at his or her own pace. Acknowledging accomplishments of goals that have been completed helps fuel the desire to progress and learn more. Within this teaching style I always strive to focus on positive ways of reinforcement for all of students when they are learning something new for their instrument. Read More
Instruments: Voice
My teaching focuses on bodily awareness and fundamental vocal techniques initially; this includes exercises to promote bodily flexibility and release tension in the muscles that can hinder ideal singing. This is paired with vocal exercises that promote use of the voice in a way that allows maximal vocal freedom and health. As the student gains consistency of vocal control and awareness, more time is allotted to working on music. I encourage students to discuss and choose music from the style(s) of their liking, as this keeps the student maximally engaged and allows the student to apply what they've learned to a situation that they can relate to. For kids I find that having a large quantity of music to learn at each level gives more variety and sense of achievement, so I usually recommend beginning students have multiple books to aid in learning. For example a young piano student will study from lesson, theory, performance, and technique books each week. This yields a well-rounded student who is proud of their achievements and eager to move forward. For adults I recommend a lesson/theory combination book at least to help with reading music. Read More

My methods vary on the student and subject. Beginning students will typically focus more on technical pieces of music to improve on certain aspects of a few pieces to perform. More advanced students will still practice technical parts of their music, but less time will be spent on it during a lesson. Advanced level students will spend more time on repertoire and performance. The more advanced a student gets, the more I expect them to practice outside of lessons and apply their newly learned technical skills into their music on their own. Read More
