Not only do I teach students how to play or create music, but also how to successfully set goals and achieve them. Every musician should have a goal in mind when practicing. Learning how to manage that goal can be tricky. I like to work together with students to take their goals and break them down smaller into more manageable pieces for them to master. This means that every student's schedule is customized to their learning. Read More

I began my teaching career about 7 years ago, during my senior year of high school. I have taught lessons for both piano and guitar consistently since that time, including my time as the Piano Instructor at Cadenza Academy in Portland, OR. I like to let the students navigate the material they learn, as I feel that they should have complete control of what they are focusing their money and time on. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for what they are learning. I therfore believe that it is important for each student to progress at his or her own pace. Acknowledging accomplishments of goals that have been completed helps fuel the desire to progress and learn more. Within this teaching style I always strive to focus on positive ways of reinforcement for all of students when they are learning something new for their instrument. Read More

I'm a kind and passionate teacher with a love of sharing my knowledge and seeing my students succeed. I attended both Clackamas Community College and Portland State University, both of which have highly respected music programs, but ultimately I left before finishing my degree to go on a national tour with my band Intervision. Honestly though, most of my development has come outside of the educational system, and through my own work and practice. Read More

Since then, I’ve continued teaching in both private and group settings, always finding deep fulfillment in helping students grow. I’ve held a variety of teaching and leadership roles, including positions with Portland Youth Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, Music Workshop, Oregon Bravo Youth Orchestras, Ventura Harmony Project, and public school districts in California and Oregon. I’m also trained and licensed as a behavioral therapist for children with autism and have contributed to educational psychology research—work that deeply informs my student-centered, empathetic approach to music education. I'm a passionate and motivated musician who loves giving my students the tools necessary for success in a wide variety of musical genres. In 2015, I graduated from University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance. Performing in a number of church groups, choirs, operas, and musicals have been enjoyable experiences in my collegiate and professional career as a musician over the last 12 years. I have also found much enjoyment in singing for punk rock/heavy metal bands, and have intermittently written my own original material. Read More

Firstly, I believe that laughter is important. It helps students relax and enjoy themselves, and it perfectly engages the muscles needed for support. I try to maintain a teaching atmosphere where laughter is possible. I also believe that the student essentially teaches themselves to sing- I diagnose and provide input. I can take a more hands on approach for less experienced singers, but ultimately, nothing is going to stick if the student is not consiously engaged. (For younger students, there is more emphasis on fun and making noise than on specific technique) Read More
