My love of teaching stems from my joy of performing! Because I am passionate about performing, I love to share that passion with eager students who benefit from this joy. It has been a gift and a privilege to work with students of varying ages who have excelled at singing and in the performing arts. Many of my students are active performers who have gained leading singing roles in community theatres, in school and university theatres and in regional theatres. Read More

This is my first time formally teaching students, but I have over 14 years of vocal training under my belt to be able to pass on. I have been trained in various styles ranging from classical, musical theatre, pop, country, etc. I write my own songs as well, and would love to encourage and assist budding songwriters with their craft. I aim to make every voice lesson an exciting and helpful experience. Read More

For beginner students, we start off using the beginning books from "Piano Adventures" by Faber Faber, and published by Hal Leonard. No matter the age of the student, I believe in project-based learning: I help my them write songs, make arrangements, record albums, and prepare for recitals. They will develop a respect for the craft of making music, the more creatively involved they are. A list of a couple highly recommended instruction books is given to each student on their first day. This is to help them grasp the basic language of their instrument. Read More

For all my students, I first ask the question: why are you taking vocal lessons? I want to know first and foremost my students' goals and what they like/don't like about their singing voice. Then I start with the basics: what is happening in your body when you sing, and why? First I like to start with singing easy 5-tone scales to discover the students' voice type, then I talk to my students about what makes their voice special. Read More

As previously mentioned, my teaching style first and foremost revolves around finding exactly what the student wants to learn and develop. As he or she progresses, I will set attainable goals along the way for the student to reach and therefore understand that learning any instrument is attainable through practice. I have found that one of the most important things is that my students do not lose motivation and their passion for music. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Violin Viola Trumpet
I've taught piano and violin for many years and enjoy the rewards and the challenges of working with students and having them learn the skills to both enjoy and succeed in music. I have also spent a number of years as music director for several different schools and churches working with choirs and handbells. I have found that when students are motivated and inspired there is practically no limit to what they can accomplish, and helping to provide that inspiration is one of my greatest goals, and why I enjoy teaching.
