I hold a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance (and a minor in dance) from Millikin University (Decatur, IL) and a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from Northern Illinois University (DeKalb, IL) where I focused on vocal pedagogy. During both my undergrad and graduate studies, I was active in the college choirs and opera productions. My teaching experience began when I completed my degree in Music Education 10 years ago. Since that time I have been teaching private lessons to students of all ages. As a teacher, I believe it is my job to meet my students where they are in their development, and prescribe exercises, repertoire, and information that will help the student with each of their individual needs and goals. For piano ages 7-12: I typically start with Primer Piano Adventures or Level 1. I also use Keith Snell Scale Skill Levels for skill and chord practices which is helpful for all kinds of music! For guitar and ukulele: Hal Leonard guitar and ukulele method. These books also teach reading the notes in sheet music and understanding how to play them on the guitar or ukulele, as well as including a tab. Read More

I usually start with breathing exercises and vocalises for all students. I also use the exercise books Concone and Sieber. After the student has grasped the breathing and the coordination of the vocalises we move on to repertoire that is age appropriate. I encourage my students to sing in Italian as this helps them to acquire a proper technique because Italian uses pure vowels. I have studied with some great teachers and feel like I need to pass on those methods to the next generation of musicians. Read More

I've been teaching music for more than 12 years now. I can honestly say that I enjoy teaching and sharing my knowledge of music. Not everyone can say that they truly enjoy their job so I feel blessed. I have taught hundreds of students ranging from ages 4 to 80! I have taught individuals, groups or online lessons.
