My love of teaching became stronger than ever after I recovered from a vocal disorder that changed my life. Everything I learned from that experience encouraged me to spread awarness of vocal health. For Voice I cater my teaching to the student's goals and aspirations. The first 10-15 minutes of a lessons are spent doing vocal warmups and sightsinging exercises. The remaining time is spent working on repertoire that the student and myself choose together. For Piano I work out of the Faber Piano Adventure Books. My teaching style, particularly with my younger students, is to combine yoga-like breathing and proper posture to develop their voice naturally. I find that it does not matter which style of singing you would like to learn or how you would like to use your voice, breathing and breath work are an essential foundation to wonderful music making. I am not using any particular method for teaching singing. However, I am familiar with many. I use a personal approach to every student. On my lessons I design the exercises for each student individually depending on student needs and requests. For beginning piano students who are children, I usually start with Faber and Faber methods and performance books. I supplement with other solo materials as the student progresses. For beginning adult piano students, I use Alfred's Adult PIano Method. For the more advanced students, music is typically chosen from a variety of sources, so that the student is playing music that is challenging and enjoyable. I have been singing since long before I could carry a tune (ask my poor family!). As I discovered my passion for it I continued to study it in college and graduated with a dual degree in Elementary Education and Music from Rider University. I had the opportunity to study voice with an amazing professor from Westminster Choir College my last few semesters. I've enjoyed singing in different choirs throughout the year. Read More
