I encourage my students to enter competition, recitals and also give music exams. I also encourage them to improvise on the idea or on the song. For beginning students who are children, I greatly emphasize vocal exercises to help strengthen their voice. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire based on the genre of music they prefer, as well as basic songs that would benefit them to learn.
