Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Music

While teaching, I create a very friendly and welcome environment. Comfort between the student and teacher is critical in order to progress with technique and repertoire. I open the floor to questions, concerns and truly want to hear what the students perspectives are. With beginner students, the primary focus is on breath management, developing flexibility between ranges, and applying technique to repertoire. For more advanced singers, I am able to help prepare for auditions or performances and focus more on the quality and control of the voice. Read More

I craft a music program based on every individual's strenght, weakness and most important: interests. Having taught music in public schools for over 30 years, I am familiar with almost every pedagogical method. Whether it is Suzuki, Gordon, Kodaly, Orff or Barry Harris, I draw from all the methodology to help all students reach their comfort zones. I will also teach how to practice your instrument-something that is often neglected. Most important,I can teach how to actively listen to music. Read More

Instruments: Voice Drums

For entry level percussionists, I start on a practice pad with the basic drum rudiments (rolls, paradiddles, flams, etc.). After learning these rudiments, I will help the student identify these techniques in their favorite songs, which we will then learn to play together. After successfully performing songs in several styles, I will task the student with creating their own groove, which we can then turn into a full song. For intermediate drummers, I will have them showcase their skill level to appropriately develop a curriculum that will keep them challenged, engaged, and progressing in their musical journey. Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Violin Cello Viola

My method is very flexible and student specific. Everyone learns slightly differently and has their own unique strengths. In general, I have a "sound before sight" method. Students learn music thoroughly, aurally and theoretically before trying to read it off the page. Imagine trying to learn a language by being handed a book. We then use your innate understanding of the music to inform your technique and the way you approach the instrument. Read More

Yes for teaching piano I use Nancy and Randall Faber's books. I have used all of them. For guitar and mandolin I generally do not use a "book". As the lessons progress I might introduce a book if that is what is called for. All orchestral instruments call for the structure of a book and I augment that with my own explanations. This is true for all ages of learners. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice

I love explaining and sharing music with people. I love engaging with students and bringing them from their current level to a higher level of artistic knowledge and musicianship. As an opera singer, recitalist and musical theater performer-I bring a lot of experience and legacy to pass down to my students. I love being able to empower them to do their very best. I am so blessed to be a teacher and performer! Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice Keyboard

For beginning students, I'd introduce the mechanism of the piano to them to help better understand how the sound is produced through striking the keys. I will also start with technique-building books such as Hanon, Czerny, as well as some easy beginner repertoire for them to learn. for intermediates to advanced level students, I would provide them with a more sophisticated list of repertoires, or any pieces they wish to learn! Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm.
