For those students (both children and adults) who are just beginning lessons, we will focus on the development of basic technique. This is centered around breathing, posture, and basic musicianship. We will spend time working on basic notes, rhythms, and ear-training in addition to vocalizing and learning songs to help develop and reinforce what we learn in our exercises. I never teach two people exactly the same way, because each singer is unique. Each singer has an individual set of physical, mental, and emotional characteristics. My goal as a teacher is to address each of these three categories, allowing my singers to grow in each of them. I will tailor my instruction to meet the needs of my students, to draw from their own experiences, and to use analogies and examples from the things they know and love. Read More

I encourage students who only play piano to try accompanying other musicians or themselves in order to strengthen their skills, and I encourage singers to perform with a local choir, try out for school musicals, and generally volunteer their musical abilities in their community. However, I understand and fully support any student's desire to simply work on their skills for personal enjoyment. My teaching style reflects a strong emphasis on practice, relaxation, and courage. My teaching experience dates back to the mid 2000's when I began teaching children's musical theater classes for various organisations, such as Vogue Entertainment, Barking Gecko Theatre Company, The Song Room and Majkidz, in my hometown of Perth, Western Australia. I also began teaching private lessons to 8-16 year olds, focusing mainly on musical theater and classical repertoire.
