Things that we may explore include; warm-ups, posture, breathing techniques, tongue twisters, learning to read notation, and rhythm. I began my work as Music Director at Old St. Patrick's Church, part of the Diocese of Lansing. During my time there, I was able to develop a relevant choral program based on the characteristics and aesthetics of the parish. The choir grew, and I improved the vocal and musical skills of all its members, which allowed us to effectively support all liturgies. We performed several concerts focused on traditional sacred music, including a grand farewell concert at Sweet Heart of Mary Church in Detroit in June of 2022. Read More

I teach beginning students both by rote and through reading. We use standard Suzuki books for repertoire and method books such as Wohlfahrt, Mazaz, and Sevcik. Very young students begin on Sassmanshaus since it is very engaging as well as well written. However if there is a specific book a student wants to learn from (such as a book from school or a specific style such as country or fiddle) then I am more than willing to teach from that. Read More

My favorite moments while teaching is the light bulb moments, for these to occure lessons are goal based and created around the students level of exsperiece, future goals, and personal goals. In the first lesson we set mini goals for each lesson, medium goals for the month, and large goals for something we want to work towards or a up and coming competition. I use a positive environment to help student feel good about their accomplishments, but also have them discover areas of improvement by recording them or asking them what they feel they did well and what they feel they need to work on.
