Additionally, I will spend time sorting through my students. And when I find a student that has an ability to do a specific musical task, I will usually nurture the student in that regard. For example, if I have a student that plays guitar at Home, he will usually be very willing to play guitar at school as well. I will find that student and offer him that opportunity in most cases. I have been around nearly every popular piano series and I think each one is has some solid areas. With beginners I like to pick and choose from different books, the primary lesson book being chosen once I meet the student and get a feel for how quickly they are going to progress. Reading music and counting are both so very important if you want to be a successful musician, which means they are the foundation of all my lessons. Read More

I teach harmony, rhythm, technique, melody, and basic sight reading by a two fold approach. First is to really feel into the music. This means learning to listen deeply with curiosity, intention, respect, and joy bringing the meaning of play into every aspect of learning. The second part is to begin with the basics of music theory by grounding fully into the fundamentals. Learning to work in forms that may seem like an alien language at first but when systematically approached with patience, dedication, and a spirit of playfulness and fun will open up and begin to reveal paths into learning and understanding that will greatly increase ones ability to engage in all musical forms. For many people, singing is all about having the confidence to try. I encourage all my students to sing out and not be afraid to make mistakes. I emphasize strengths and am always quick to point out the smallest of victories. Learning to sing is about consistency and knowing you're a work in progress. Even the most accomplished of singers are still learning and growing. I think the best sound comes from a relaxed and comfortable body, which is why I incorporate work on posture and movement to make sure you are uninhibited by body tension or stiffness. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to high school. I was a student leader in the marching band, serving as the woodwind captain for the marching band and the senior student conductor for the concert bands. With these positions, I was able to tutor peers and work on expanding my knowledge of teaching music. Once I graduated, I continued to be employed as the clarinet technician for the marching band at my high school for the next 4 years. Read More
