As our time together continues, my goal for the student is that they become more self-sufficient (as is age-appropriate). For example, a teenage/adult student who has been taking lessons for a year will lead the lesson more than a beginner student; they will understand my warm up system and will arrive at the lesson warmed up and arrive with goals and questions prepared. Music lessons were one of my favorite activities growing up and continue to be for me as an adult. I want to give my students the same joy that I have for music, regardless of what their goals are. In the first lesson, I ask every new student what their goals area. That is how we start working together. First and foremost, the main end goal for me with every single one of my students in my studio is attempting to develop the same love and passion for music that I have been so lucky to develop through having enthusiastic, knowledgeable, talented instructors as well. While I would love to see some of my students pursue a degree/career in music past a few years into high school, I realize that that is a tough calling to follow, and many times people sing or perform more as a hobby than a career choice. I teach vocal students from ages 6-adult. We work on breathing techniques, music theory, interpretation, and style. I like students to sing their favorite styles. I also expose them to songs that I feel would be appropriate for their growth. We also work on performance and auditions!
