I will always be ready to help them on trouble areas or encourage them when they get it right, but I want them to learn how to recognize it on their own so they can develop outside of a lesson! Part of our final project included giving a sample lesson to a colleague, and I fell in love with helping someone achieve their goal through singing. I have taught in several different settings over the years, but my private studio has been the most satisfying environment. For students before 18, I suggest them to sing more fun and lighter repertoire without trying too hard and building bad habits. For some students who need advice for auditions and competitions, I love to discuss with them openly about plans, repertoire choices, and characterization, and I offer more physical and mental practice to make them well-prepared. When faced with a new student I always ask them what type of music they are into and what are they interested in learning and how that type of music makes them feel.
